Van der Veer studied Music and Composition Production at the Utrecht School of the Arts[9]. During this period, he developed a particular interest in sound design and foley. After graduating in 2007, he began his career as a freelance sound engineer and sound designer, working for various sound studios in the Netherlands.

He later worked as a freelance foley artist at Studio Vermaas, where he contributed to a number of feature films. In 2014 Van der Veer founded his own foley studio in Amsterdam. His work on The Lobster (2015), directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, was among his early international credits; the film won the Jury Prize[10] at the Cannes Film Festival.

After several years, Van der Veer relocated his studio to Haarlem. He subsequently worked more frequently on international productions, including Girl (2018)[11], directed by Lukas Dhont, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard[12] section at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Caméra d'Or[13]. He also contributed to The Forgotten Battle (2020)[14], which won the Golden Calf for Best Sound Design[15].

Van der Veer has worked on film and television productions for platforms such as Netflix, Disney, and Amazon[16], including series such as Love & Anarchy[17] and Anxious People. In 2025, the short film I Am Not a Robot,[18] for which he provided foley sound, won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film[19]. In the same year, he was invited by sound designer Peter Albrechtsen to provide foley for the Danish feature film Mango[20]
