Roraima Ana Andriani (born July 1963) is an Italian-Venezuelan law enforcement official and lawyer, best known for her extensive career in international policing and her executive leadership roles at INTERPOL. With a career spanning over 35 years, Andriani has transitioned from operational and management duties to strategic diplomatic roles. She became the first woman to serve as the INTERPOL Special Representative to the United Nations in 2023, and as of September 2025, she serves as the INTERPOL Special Representative to the European Union.[1]
Early life and education
Andriani was born in July 1963 in Maracay, Venezuela, to a Venezuelan mother. She holds dual Italian and Venezuelan nationality. Growing up immersed in diverse cultures shaped her internationally-minded approach to her career.[1]
She pursued her higher education in Italy, graduating with a degree in Law from the Università degli Studi di Bari. She later earned a master's degree in geopolitics.[1]
Career
Early law enforcement career
Andriani began her law enforcement career serving as an officer in the Italian national police force (Polizia di Stato), where she eventually reached the rank of Brigadier General.[1] She later joined the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) as a Project Leader. At Europol, she was responsible for developing and managing the agency's relations with member states and various international organizations.[2]
INTERPOL leadership
Andriani's most notable work has been with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), where she has held a succession of critical leadership positions over several decades.
From 2001 to 2015, Andriani served as the Director of Cabinet, working closely under Secretaries General Ronald K. Noble and Jürgen Stock. Following this tenure, she was appointed Director of Organized and Emerging Crime, a role she held from 2015 to 2017.[2]
In 2017, Andriani took on the role of Director of INTERPOL's Global Outreach and Regional Support. In this capacity, she managed seven Regional Bureaus located across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, overseeing international collaboration and supporting regional law enforcement strategies.[2] Prior to her eventual appointment to the United Nations, Andriani also served as the Acting Executive Director of Partnerships and Planning, where she oversaw INTERPOL's strategic partnerships and fostered ties with regional and international bodies.[3]
United Nations and European Union Special Representative
In October 2023, Andriani officially took up her post as INTERPOL's new Special Representative to the United Nations in New York, becoming the first woman to lead the office. During a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, she expressed her objective to bolster collaboration between the two organizations, with a specific focus on combatting environmental crime, promoting gender equality, and engaging youth in meaningful dialogue.[3]
Throughout her tenure at the UN, she prioritized a victim-centered and human rights-based approach to policing, focusing on the protection of vulnerable populations in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She advocated for initiatives such as the "Identify Me" program, which seeks to identify unknown female murder victims, and championed partnerships with UN Women and UNICEF.[1]
Continuing her strategic trajectory within the organization, Andriani was appointed as the INTERPOL Special Representative to the European Union in September 2025.[1]
