Major Rory Taylor, is a Scottish fictional character in the tv series about army life Soldier Soldier and the youngest soldier to ever be promoted to Major, played by Dougray Scott. Although he is one of the most senior officers he breaks the rules out of kindness to his fellow colleagues.

Rory Taylor is firm but fair in his approach to army life as Major,he can be tough when he wants to be, but is also a decent fair man, as we see in one episode Lt. Jeremy Forsythe is seeing his girlfriend and arrives late back for inspection and lies about collecting medical supplies (to which two of his colleagues, platoon doctor Cpt. Sadie WIlliams and Sgt. Brad Connor cover for him), but Rory knows he is lying, he smiles then lets it slide anyway. When he has to reprimand Jeremy again for a mistake he shouts at him, then says learn from it.
Major Taylor suffers heartache when deployed to Australia he falls in love with a local girl, Tara and plans to marry her, but a tornado hits the town and she is found dead in her car, he trys CPR but he is too late and pronounces her dead, he does not have time to grieve as he is needed elsewhere.
