Rosalind Monks

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Rosalind Monks is a British born Artist, Illustrator and Free spirit who was brought up in Switzerland. Rosalind uses lines to create patterns within shapes of insects, birds and other animals. She combines different lines together to make patterns.

Most people who know Rosalind, know her as “Rosie”.

Rosalind draws for a living and does this from wherever she is in the world. Recently (2019) she has split most of her time between Verbier Switzerland and Wanaka New-Zealand.

Rosalind can immerse herself in her own creative world and take this with her wherever she travels.

When she is not drawing, she spends most of her time outdoors, skiing, mountain biking, surfing, climbing, playing football. Anything that gets her moving! She stopped over japan on her way to Europe from New Zealand. She thought it was an amazing country with wonderful people, culture and great snow.  Rosalind loves cities that have great arts and cultures like Melbourne, Barcelona, New York, London or Tokyo.

Growing up in the Swiss countryside above Lake Geneva, Rosalind isalways outdoors enjoying her lush surroundings, whether skiing or simply hiking through the woods near her house. Moving to the ocean for her university years Rosalind completed a BA Hons majoring in Illustration at the University of Brighton and began recreating the world around her in her own, bold style.

After graduating, Rosalind spent a year living out of a car circumnavigating Australia. Capturing the vivid colours and beautiful patterns inherent in the varied urban and natural environments she found, Rosalind’s style continued to develop as she travelled. Now spending half the year in New Zealand, this fresh environment provides an abundance of rich, new stimuli as well as a vast playground for activity with its island environment dominated by both the mountains and sea. “The more interesting my surroundings are the more I am inspired to draw”

For Rosalind, drawing is a way of taking what she loves from the world around her and visually processing it to create her own little universe in her head; She feeds this directly into her images, one carefully drawn line at a time.
