Rose Marie Battaglia

Rose Marie Battaglia has loved the sport of basketball ever since grade school. She went to school at Panzer school of Physical Education. This school eventually combined with Montclair State and little while after that it soon became Montclair State Teacher College and that was in 1958.In 1966 she graduated from Montclair state and then continued her education at the University of Utah and got her PhD. Battaglia has so much knowledge of the game because she has been around it for so long to see it make changes. She experienced the game when there was no such thing as over time and most teams only played 10 games per season. She always wanted to know more and expand the game so she would attend Men's camps just to gain more knowledge.When Battaglia went back to school at get her PhD she stopped teaching physical education but she was still working. She was teaching others the game of basketball and running her own clinics.

She began her Coaching career at Paramus Catholic High School in New jersey. While she coached here she had 274 victories and she won 2 straight state championships. When she coached at Paramus Catholic she also coached at Bergen Community College as well which is diagonally across the street from Paramus Catholic. There would be times where she would have to stay over because of having back to back practices and the nuns at Paramus catholic would giver her a spot to stay and took care of her. Her college level victories were 702. These were combined between Bergen Community College and Iona College. For a the she also coached at St Michael's in Union city and Benedict Academy in Elizabeth.

Anne Donovan was a player of Battaglias at Paramus Catholic and she holds a special place for her in her heart. She was hard working and easy to coach according to Battaglia. She later went on to play in college at Old Dominion University and then went on to play for team USA and earn a gold medal in 2008. Donavan credits all her success to Battaglia and her influence on her. Not only when it came to playing but just in life in general.

Battaglia believes that there have been a few changes in the game. One being that the skill level has gotten a lot better and the game has gotten to be more physical. She believes that well start to see more women dunking than ever before because they players are starting to be a lot taller now. None of this is a bad thing in her opinion at all. She loves that the game is changing and she bevies as the game changes she changes too.But there is one thing that she wishes she could change about the game. It is the fact that there aren't as many female coaches as she hopes there would be. When she watched the final four game every year she hopes to see more female coaches.

Battaglia was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in June 2018 in Knoxville Tennessee. She was inducted alongside six other people. To her this was such an honor and it is every coaches dream.
