The Rosenhain Medal and Prize is awarded annually to a scientist or engineer for recognizing of distinguished achievement in any branch of materials science. The prize is administered by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

The award is open to members of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining as well as other scientists and engineers worldwide. The aim of the award is to recognize the distinguished achievements in material science of early-career scientists, and nominees should be no older than 40 years of age.

The award is instituted in 1951 to honor the memory of German-born Australian metallurgist Walter Rosenhain, it is the highest young researcher award presented by IOM3, the premier global network for professionals in materials science.

Recipients of the award receive a medal, a certificate and a prize of £300. The first award was made in 1951.

Sir Peter Hirsch, Professor Emeritus from University of Oxford, was the winner of Rosenhain Medal and Prize on 1961 and later he won the Arthur Von Hippel Award from Materials Research Society on 1983 and Wolf Prize in Physics from the Wolf Foundation on 1983.

To date, there are two Professors from Asia who has won this award and there are Prof. Ngan A.H.W. at The University of Hong Kong and Prof. Yong K.T. from Nanyang Technological University.
