Ross Van Ness Fire Department is headquartered in Ross Van Ness, Arkansas, at 103 Stephenson Lane.
The Ross Van Ness Fire Department was established in 2002 by Craig and Cathy Stephenson, notable cattle farmers of Eudora. The Stephenson family donated the land, worked with State and Local officials to create and establish the Department. The Department was Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit in 2002, and granted a Fire Protection district status by The State of Arkansas in 2002.
In 2003, The Fire Department received apparatus from The Arkansas Department of Forestry, this included a 1976 American LaFrance Engine, 1976 2.5 Ton Brush Truck and 1977 5 Ton 2000 Gallon Tanker.
Past Fire Chiefs: Edward Pardon, Jeffrey Gray, Terry Nichols, Jonathan Bradford
Current Fire Chief: John P. Welch
In 2009, The Department was restructured to enhance growth and response capacity for the community. The department evaluated the original Board of Directors and decided it was in it's best interest to increase the number from 3 to 5. The Fire Chief (Terry Nichols) worked with the newly elected Board of Directors to acquire funding for new equipment; including Thermal Imaging, SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) and NFPA certified PPE. This would increase the Departments ability to respond to emergency incidents more safely.
In 2012, Fire Chief Terry Nichols resigned and was appointed as Deputy Fire Chief, Jonathan Bradford was appointed interim Fire Chief by the Board of Directors.
From 2012 to 2018, Chief Bradford worked with local foundations, local, state and federal agencies to acquire new apparatus, build a second Fire Station (Located at 6737 HWY 159 S, Eudora, AR)
In 2019, Fire Chief Bradford requested the Board of Directors appoint a permanent Fire Chief and nominated Asst. Chief John P. Welch for the position. The Board of Directors agreed and officially appointed John P. Welch in the summer of 2019.
The Ross Van Ness Fire Department, City of Eudora, City of Lake Village and Rural Chicot County is currently provided Medical Response by Pafford EMS. Local Link
