History[edit]

Roundhouse Studios is a new development studio for Bethesda Softworks, founded in 2019. Human Head Studios closed its doors on November 13, 2019. Under Zenimax Media, Roundhouse Studios was established on the same day.[2] Human Head Studios has been transformed into Roundhouse Studios. Both Human Head Studios and Roundhouse Studios share the same staff and development team. Chris Rhinehart, who was creative director on Prey 2 at Human Head Studios, has maintained his role as creative director at Roundhouse Studios. The team has more than two decades working experience on multiple games and genres, including role-playing games, shooters, and action-adventure games. Human Head Studios was an independent company that created games like Prey and Rune series.

ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Roundhouse Studios, was acquired by Microsoft in 2021 for $7.5 billion and Roundhouse Studios became part of Xbox Game Studios.[3] As of December 2021 the Roundhouse Studios had 53 developers working on its next project with Unreal Engine.[4] According to a press statement from Bethesda Softworks in 2020, the company has started to work right away on "unannounced projects." Given that the Roundhouse Studios crew has worked on a wide range of games, this may be any one of a number of genres. The past few years have seen Bethesda Softworks and Roundhouse Studios continue to expand and grow the development team for multiple projects.[5]
