Roven Vogel; born 7 July 2000) is a German born chess player who holds the FIDE title of International Master.
Biography[edit]
Roven Vogel began playing chess at Siebenlehner SV, a sports club found in Großschirma. His first coach, Peter Kahn, inspired him to play chess and he later learned from Mathias Womacka. Since 2010, he has been trained by Grandmaster Henrik Teske. In the chess Bundesliga/German Chess League, he plays for USV TU Dresden but in prior years he has also played in Austria for SK Dornbirn in 2015 and 2016 as well as in the 2017/2018 season for Moravská Slavia Brno of the Czech Extraliga.
In 2015 Vogel competed at the U16 World Youth Chess Championship in Porto Carras, Greece. After a moderate 3/5 start, he won the last 6 games and won the world title with 9 points, a half point ahead of Luca Moroni Jr. of Italy and Haik M. Martirosyan of Armenia becoming the first German chess player since Arik Braun to place in any section of the Youth Championships. In the same year he got his third IM norm at the ZDMI Open and was granted the title of International Master.
At the 2016 U18 World Chess Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk, Vogel finished 32nd. In 2016 for his accomplishments, he was named the U20 German player of the year by the German Chess Youth. In June 2017 he became the German U18 champion. In January 2020, Vogel won the Tata Steel Qualifiers (C tournament) at the traditional tournament in Wijk aan Zee and thus qualified for the challengers division of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2022.
