Rowena Simpson
Rowena E. Simpson was the seventh mayor of Nackawic, New Brunswick, Canada.[1] On May 2008, she was elected as the first woman mayor in the history of the town.[2]
She was born in Hartfield, New Brunswick, on March 20, 1946.
Mayor Simpson previously served as deputy mayor and councillor in the town for 16 years. Her husband, Bob Simpson also served as mayor from 1974 to 1983. They are the only husband and wife to have both served as mayor of the same town in the history of New Brunswick. Mrs. Simpson served only one term as mayor, being defeated during the quadrennial municipal election of May 14, 2012.
Rowena Simpson is also the aunt of Matt Stairs, a Canadian born former player in Major League Baseball who holds major league records for most career pinch hit home runs and for having played with the most teams.[3]
