Roxy Square
Roxy Square is a mixed-use development complex in Marine Parade, Singapore. It is composed of the shopping mall Roxy Square Shopping Centre, the hotel Grand Mercure Hotel, and the condomium Roxy Square Condominium.

History
Prior to the construction of Roxy Square, Roxy Cinema stood there, which opened on 17 February 1931. However, its land was sold in July 1977 to Soonann Realty (a member of the Soon Nam Group), who planned to build a S$20 million (1978) (US$FXConvert/Wordify error: cannot parse value "Undefined year "1978"") shopping centre and hotel complex named "Roxy Square" in hopes of connecting the Joo Chiat area to Marine Parade.[1][2][3] Roxy Cinema later closed down in June 1978.[4] By January 1981, it was reported that the plans for project took almost three years to finalise. It was also reported that the shopping centre would be constructed first, which would take about one and a half years. Meanwhile, construction on the hotel would start four months after the construction of the shopping mall started and would open by 1983. By then, it costed S$30 million (1981) (US$FXConvert/Wordify error: cannot parse value "Undefined year "1981"") and S$35 million (1981) (US$FXConvert/Wordify error: cannot parse value "Undefined year "1981"") to build the mall and hotel, respectively, as well as S$12 million (1981) (US$FXConvert/Wordify error: cannot parse value "Undefined year "1981"") for the land.[5]
