Roy Arthur Hunt (August 3, 1881 – 1966) was an American businessman who served as president of Alcoa from 1928 to 1963.[1] In 1957 he was one of the richest people in the world.[2]
Early life[edit]
Roy Arthur Hunt was born on August 3, 1881, in Nashua, New Hampshire. When he was young he and his family moved to Pittsburgh, where his father founded the Pittsburgh Reduction Company.[3][1]
Career[edit]
He started his career as an assistant superintendent at his father's company.[3]
In 1914, Hunt joined Alcoa's board of directors, and served as general superintendent of Alcoa's fabricating plants, and helped the government with aluminium production for the war.[3]
In 1918, Hunt was promoted to vice president.[3]
In 1928, Hunt was elected as Alcoa's president, and he served in that position until 1963.[3]
Personal life[edit]
Hunt was the only son of Alcoa's founder, Alfred E. Hunt.[3]
Hunt had four children. Alfred M. Hunt (1919–1984) was secretary of Alcoa. Torrence M. Hunt (1922–2004) was a vice president of Alcoa. Roy A. Hunt Jr. (1925–1981) was a vice president at Mellon Bank.
