Roy Crewdson (born 20 May 1941) is a retired English guitarist and actor who was active during the 1960s and early 1970s with pop group Freddie and the Dreamers.
Early life and career
Born in Manchester in 1941, Crewdson was an original member of pop group Freddie and the Dreamers alongside Freddie Garrity, Pete Birrell, Derek Quinn and Bernie Dwyer. The Dreamers were known for their well-known hits which include You Were Made For Me, I'm Telling You Now and Do The Freddie. During performances, he was seen doing the Freddie (a dance that was introduced in 1965). One thing remembered about Roy was his premature balding (a certain feature that stuck out in photos); however, he is seen wearing Toupée's in later images.
Roy continued to perform with The Dreamers until their temporary disbandment in 1971. One of the last videos of Crewdson with The Dreamers was filmed on July 7th 1971 on the Hope and Keen's Crazy House show where he is seen performing "Susan's Tuba" with Garrity, Birrell and Dwyer (with Quinn absent).[1] At the time of the performance, Roy would have been 30.
Crewdson was also known for his subtle acting career, appearing with the Dreamers in films, most notably Every Day's a Holiday[2] and for co-starring alongside his bandmates in the 1967 comedy Cuckoo Patrol, a film portraying the band as scouts that get lost after accidentally departing from their scout leader (played by Kenneth Connor.)
Later life and present day
After the Dreamers broke up, Crewdson moved to Los Cristianos, Tenerife and opened the Dreamers Bar[3] and was married to a woman named Denise.
