Royal Pashayev (Azerbaijani: Röyal Paşayev) better known by his pseudonym az-ya, is an Azerbaijani artist, journalist, political activist and director. He is one of the founders of the Azerbaijani movement H.O.S.T. and manager of music label MadHouse Community. He graduated from Odlar Yurdu University, Baku in 2008.
Career[edit]
After graduating from high school in Ukraine he moved to Baku and started working as a journalist in 2003. In 2004 he entered Odlar Yurdu University and got his graduate degree in journalism. In 2007 he founded H.O.S.T. movement with his friends, and was the manager, art director, director of music videos/clips of the eponymous music band.
He was one of the origins and generators of H.O.S.T. movement. He worked hard on pushing away the bounders of rap band and culture and was the main person who guided supporters all the time. Known by all as "az-ya" Royal Pashayev created all visual parts and symbols of H.O.S.T. He is an author of all posters, visual designs of concerts, and hundreds of song/album covers.[1][2][3][4]
In 2015, Royal Pashayev presented his art-project "Magdalena". He portrayed different famous women in hijab. He described his artworks as metaphor about Mary Magdalene who travelled with Jesus, followed him and was forgiven by him whereas she wasn't accepted by the people who followed Jesus. The main inspiration of art-project comes from the sentence "Let the one of you that is sinless be the first to throw a stone at her." Absurdity and inconsistency of human being in project showed by Magdalene in Islam instead of Christianity.[5][6]
