Rubal Singh Thakur (born 24 October 1995) is an Indian youth leader and political activist associated with the Indian National Congress. He currently serves as a National Coordinator of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and is a Board of Directors (B.O.D) member of the Himachal Pradesh Nasha Nivaran Board, a state-level government body working to combat drug abuse.
Early life and education
Rubal Singh Thakur was born on 24 October 1995 in Barsar, Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh. He is the son of the late Shri Kuldeep Singh and grandson of Lambardar Subedar Gian Singh, who served as the first Sarpanch of Barsar from 1952 to 1975.
He completed his graduation in Computer Applications from Government Degree College, Barsar, between 2014 and 2017.
Political career
Student leadership
Thakur joined the NSUI in 2013 and quickly rose through the ranks. In 2014, he was appointed Campus President of NSUI at GDC Barsar. The following year, he became the NSUI District President for Hamirpur.
In 2017, he was appointed State General Secretary of NSUI Himachal Pradesh. In 2019, he was shortlisted among the top two panelists for the NSUI State President selection interview held in Delhi.
National role
In 2021, Thakur was nominated as a National Coordinator of NSUI. In this role, he has led several national and state-level campaigns, with a focus on youth empowerment and anti-drug awareness.
During the 2024 Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, he was named among the top three potential candidates from the Barsar constituency in internal surveys conducted by the Indian National Congress.
Initiatives and advocacy
Anti-drug campaigns
As a National Coordinator of NSUI, Thakur has been actively involved in the "Sankalp – Anti-Drug Campaign", launched across Himachal Pradesh. The campaign aims to raise awareness about drug abuse among youth and students, especially in educational institutions.[1][2]
Thakur has also served as a member of the Himachal Pradesh Nasha Nivaran Board, where he contributes to policymaking efforts to curb drug abuse statewide.[3]
Youth and student representation
