Ruben Paul Whitter /ʀʉ-ʙɛɴ hwɪ-tɛər/ (born July 14, 1995) is a British boxer and operatic lyric tenor from Nottingham, United Kingdom.[1][2] who also produces and hosts 'Rambunctious Bombabstic Newcast: RBN The Voicenotes', a podcast which was created during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020.[3]

2014-2022: Career[edit]
Ruben Whitter's career began with bit parts on stage such as portraying a courtier in the opera Rigoletto staged by Ellen Kent in 2014 and as a mercenary in the webseries "Kill Day" during the same year. Despite this, Whitter never thought that he would pursue opera later in life and initially pursued a career as an actor rather than an opera singer. Some of Ruben Whitter's first notable appearances on screen include in the short film Nicholson Street, a crowdfunded film in which Whitter portrayed a mime performer aiding the wellbeing of a homeless man under the direction of Juan Martín.[4] and 'Lila: a tale of a Gopi, filmed during the Hare Krishna festival of 2015, in which Whitter portrayed Govin under the direction of Saie Surendra and Jegani Gunanithy.[5] Sometime in 2015 Ruben Whitter worked with visual artist Anikó Kuikka for the experimental short film "333999666 in the Royal Academy of Arts, London.[6] In August of that year, Ruben Whitter portrayed Demetrius in the Canal Café Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe Festival of 2015 under the direction of Genevive Rey from Venture Wolf productions.[7][8] In 2016, Whitter appeared in the debut episode of British reality TV show naked attraction as a contestant attempting to precure a date with a bisexual woman, through nothing else but his naked body, and has since been broadcast internationally.[9][10] Throughout 2016-17, Whitter explored more grounded characters on screen guest starring in multiple comedy web-series such as "Yemoja: Rise of the Orisha" and "Sorry Not Interested."[11] Soon after this time period that Whitter returned to Nottingham to declare himself homeless due to escaping an abusive same-sex relationship[12] and encountered Streetwise Opera.[13] The social media-inspired short films "To Trend on Twitter" in a supporting role[14] and "You've got Instagram" in a lead role were released in 2018 with the latter earning a place on the podium of Catford's 48 hour film festival of that year.[15]
The first episode of "Rambunctious Bombastic Newscast: RBN The Voicenotes" which is produced and hosted by Ruben Whitter[16] was uploaded in January of 2020 during the Covid-19 Pandemic and is described as having "unscripted, unfiltered, raw, honest, true behind the scenes perspectives."[17] Ruben Whitter performed with the Streetwise Opera ensemble during the covid-19 lockdowns Streetwise Opera provided Whitter a digital space where he said that "[people] are worthy of expressing ourselves in the most eclectic way regardless of our troubles." In autumn of 2020, Ruben Whitter worked with composer Jessie Maryon Davies amongst others throughout the UK to co create the mini opera 'The Deer'. with Streetwise Opera.[18] Ruben Whitter participated in James Ketteridge's 2020 documentary "JMKs Lockdown Film an Actors Creation" in which Whitter expressed disappointment about theatre's being unable to reopen to full capacity after the pandemic.[19]
Ruben Whitter started boxing as early as May 2021[20] in the Nottingham School of Boxing.[21] The combination of Whitter's athletic and creative efforts garnered the attention of Streetwise Opera's head of marketing Rey Trombetta as in October 2021 Whitter participated in Rey Trombetta's documentary "Why We Sing" which showcased Ruben Whitter as an opera singer and boxer in Nottingham Playhouse and Nottingham school of boxing.[18][22] Trombetta described Ruben Whitter as a "Young man [who] was very keen on being filmed at his best and his happiest: singing, skateboarding, and boxing [and] is not defined by his experience of homelessness."[18]
In November 2021, Ruben Whitter performed with Streetwise Opera within their performance of 'A Tangled Night: Stories of conflict and resolution through dance and song' in which they debuted the documentary 'Why We Sing'.[23] April 2022, Ruben Whitter portrayed a comedic Inspector alongside actress Sophie Pedder-Russo in the Connor Thompson directed short film The Rest and Welcome.[24] A month later Whitter paid homage to the deaf and hard of hearing community by exemplifying British Sign Language (BSL) for the short film "Remember Love" Directed by Cal MM Benajmin.[25] In mid June 2022 Ruben Whitter portrayed Johnathon Swift in the Lace Market Theatre production of Queen Anne after it was announced via the social media app Instagram earlier that same month.[26] Whitter's performance was praised by critics both as an independent actor as well as within the ensemble cast.[27] [28][29]

Ruben Whitter's acting has been lauded from critics and audience members from stage and screen alike. Nicholson Street, shot in London United Kingdom, being officially selected for screening in the 2015 KO&Digital Festival Internacional de Cine Solidario, Barcelona, marks Whitter's first accolade as well as establishing Whitter's presence as an international artist.[30] Whitter's 2018 lead role as Slim in You've Got Instagram garnered second place at Catford's 48 hour film festival.[31] In Whitter's home city of Nottingham, United Kingdom, East Midlands Theatre reviewer Cathy Robinson gave Whitter's Portrayal of Johnathon Swift a "special mention" within her critique of The Lace Market Theatre's June 2022 ensemble production of Queen Anne and commended Whitter's "real presence on the stage" with Whitter "perfectly capture[ing] the posture and clipped speech of [17th Century England]"[32]
Philanthropy and other endeavours[edit]
By October 2021 Ruben Whitter was training as a professional chef in Malt Cross,[33] Nottingham and strained as a baker in the school of Artisan food during May 2022 in which he displayed "curiosity" about food.[34] His chef skills were recognized by BBC East Midlands today whilst he was interviewed for his third documentary - this time the Wolfpack Project which is a charity for young people with the aim to combat loneliness for young people in Nottingham. Ruben Whitter spoke about how the Wolfpack project helped make new friends in a time of isolation after the second lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic.[35]
Whitter has also donated his time to more decorative efforts being seen bringing "community spirit" and "festive joy" to the YMCA accommodation centre in December 2021.[36][37]
Personal Life[edit]
Ruben Whitter is perceived to be bisexual to with the combination of himself attempting to procure a date with a woman on reality TV and media sources commenting that "he has always been open about the fact he is attracted to men." Whitter has also alluded to being agender having referred to himself as a "girl" in slang form as well as "previously show[ing] his feminine side on Twitter" despite being born and living as a man.[38][39]
