Rudy Needham Hudson (born December 1, 2004) is an American businessman and activist. He is the co-founder and CEO of EmigreApp.[1]
Early life
Rudy Needham Hudson was born on December 1, 2004, in Puerto de San José, Guatemala. Adopted in infancy, he grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. His grandfather played basketball at Syracuse University. His parents were both corporate executives who transitioned into nonprofit work. He has an older brother, Luke, of Ukrainian descent. He later acquired Irish and Spanish citizenship through the naturalization of his parents.[2]
As a child, Hudson's first hobby was aeronautics. He developed a passion for art in his teens and cited Leonardo da Vinci as an early inspiration. He drew replicas of paintings and redesigned toys and skyscrapers. Hudson spent weekends in the garage with his uncle, building and tinkering with cars and engines, which sparked his interest in design and later technology. [3]
Education
Hudson graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 2023. He played varsity soccer for the Eagles his senior year.[4]
Career
After graduating from East Mecklenburg High School in 2023, Hudson moved to San Francisco to work for a former colleague of his who was attending Stanford University. He worked as a UI designer and backend developer. After six months, he became disillusioned with the role and the long commutes, and left to pursue his own venture.[5]
At age 19, Hudson used his knowledge of systems to solve usability problems for design, work that would become foundational in programming the first prototype for EmigreApp. He had already begun selling sneakers at scale, moving over 20,000 pairs by the time he graduated high school. Leveraging his computer science background with a clear vision and an ability to inspire teams, Hudson embarked on his mission to revolutionize fashion.[6]
