Rum and raspberry
The local South African drink rum and raspberry was initially invented by a group of young men (Desigan Subrayan, Mukesh (Dj Mukie B) Budhai, David Vengarajaloo, Wesly Moonsamy, Sebastian David’s, Donavan Rajoo and Dion aka D’s) from Laudium, Pretoria. One cold evening while hanging out with friends at a local Dj's house (Dj Mukie B) having their local favourite beverage Rum and coke, they ran out of Coke so when they went to buy more the local garage which was sold out so they bought raspberry and that was the birth of rum and raspberry, DJ Mukie B made it quite popular by promoting it at all the night clubs he played at, the rest of the friends also promoted it as this was their drink of choice wherever they went and so it became speciality for South African's in Pretoria first then Johannesburg, now over most parts of South Africa. The drink has now evolved into a cocktail being served at restaurant’s as R&R.
