Rumana Afroz (Bengali: রুমানা আফরোজ; born 14th October 1985) is a Bangladeshi News Reporter and Anchor for Boishakhi TV. She has maintained a career for 15 years in both entertainment, and news media. She has received an award from the International Women's Day Award Ceremony in 2023 for her work and impact it had.[1]

Background[edit]

Born in Chittagong, 1985, Dewan Rumana Afroz was raised by her father, Dewan Maqsood Ahmed and mother, Nargis Zakia Sultana with a younger brother, Showrov. Some of her family and relatives, including father, brother, uncle, and cousin are involved in media and entertainment. She is related to Moktadir Dewan (BeatBaksho), by paternal uncle, Dewam Mahmood Ahmed. Her family's hometown is Naogaon. From a young age, she has won prizes and received various accolades for singing and dancing to folk songs. In 2014, she married Mahbub Alam from Chandpur, Comilla. They had a daughter together, named Maliyat Alam Mugdho.[2]

Career[edit]

She was the Brand Ambassador for Lux in 2005, making a public appearance in July 24th 2006 within a newspaper from Dainik Ichhamoti. She was later chosen to be one of the top 12 of Lux Channel I Superstar Beauty Contest.[3]

In 2007, Afroz was hired as a Jockey for Radio Foorti where she'd entertain special guests while writing storylines for the station broadcast. She was also a host to various events like ceremonies, conferences, and conventions in Foy's Lake till 2010. She later moved on to work as a Staff Reporter for Somoy Media Limited in 2010. Which was the start of her early career as a news reporter and broadcaster. By 2012, she relocated to Boishakhi Television. Continued her occupation as a Reporter till 2015, afterward taking a 2-year-long break before working back in Boishakhi Television as a Senior News and Program Presenter. Continuing to work to this day, eventually becoming the face of the news broadcast program.[4]

At March 11th, 2023, she was cordially invited to the 8th Annual International Women's Day Award Ceremony in New Jersey, USA to receive an award for her work that has provided betterment of lives, recognition for social issues, and news report with great journalistic integrity.[5][6]

Side-projects[edit]

She is currently running her own clothing brand named MUGDHO, of which she had been working on for over 3 years. Selling Jamdani based clothes which follows Bangladeshi Heritage.[7]
