Ruslan Marzaganov (Russian: Марзаганов, Руслан Хаджи-Муратович; born August 1961) is a Russian civil engineer and technical advisor to various state institutions in the Russian Federation. He is a proponent of industrial automation and digitalisation in civil engineering and construction. His expertise in concrete technologies and work with high-tech engineering companies such as Sommer Anlagentechnik GmbH and RIB SAA (RIB Software) that specialise in fully-automated (robotic) pre-cast concrete technologies and building information modelling (BIM), respectively, have made him known in the CIS engineering community.[1][2][3]
Russian state organs and enterprises including the Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation (Russian: Росатом, tr. Rosatom, IPA: [rɐsˈatəm]) and the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade have employed his technologies to address issues related to infrastructure, energy and housing.[4] Dr. Marzaganov coordinated the rapid rebuilding of the villages in the Moscow Region affected by the 2010 Russian Wildfires, most notably Beloomut.[5]
Early life and education[edit]
Ruslan Marzaganov was born in August 1961 in Grosny, USSR. Following the completion of his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in civil and industrial engineering at the Grozny State Oil Institute and the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, he defended his engineering PhD in 1989 at the renowned Research Institute of Concrete and Reinforced Concrete (NIIZHB)[6] named after A.A. Gvozdev. In 1991, as part of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) between Germany and the USSR, he was invited to the University of Göttingen as a visiting post-doc research fellow. He was one of the last researchers to participate in the DAAD programme with the USSR, as the fateful collapse of the Soviet Union occurred only months after his arrival. Following the termination of the programme, the Technical University of Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig) offered him a full-time research position at its Institute for Building Material, Solid Construction and Fire Protection (German: Institut für Baustoffe, Massivbau und Brandschutz). During his tenure at TU Braunschweig (until 1995), he published a number of scientific articles on his research in concrete and other construction material technologies.[7][8]
Career[edit]
After completing his scientific tenure at TU Braunschweig, he founded the construction & engineering bureau Domax Bautec Group, which had offices in Russia, Germany and Ukraine.[9] Among his first projects was a joint venture between Domax Bautec and the Russian Gas Giant Gazprom, which formed an interior design boutique (Gallery D7; Russian: Галерея D7) in 2001.[10][9]
He also owns two other engineering ventures.[11] Since 2006 his activities are directed towards being Managing Director and co-owner of Sommer Pre-Cast Russia Ltd.[12], which is a joint venture between the German pre-cast technology company Sommer Anlagentechnik GmbH.[2]
His international engagements concentrate on introducing novel technologies in construction & engineering to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and adapting these to meet local requirements (e.g. climate conditioning, regulatory standardisation etc.).[1] Publicly, he engages in the modernisation of the construction sector within the CIS region, using intelligent software and fully-automated (robotic) industrial machinery, also commonly branded as Industry 4.0.[13][14][15]
Most recently, he has proposed a new concept of decentralised and mobile production units that work in an organic-like system with adjustable levels of productivity.[16] The proposed technology, referred to as multi-functional construction technology centres (MSTC, Russian: МСТЦ), is designed to be deployed in the most remote and economically underdeveloped regions in Russia to address various logistical and industrial challenges, ranging from rebuilding efforts following natural disasters to empowering regional economic development programmes.[17][13][18][19][20] In August 2019 Deputy Prime Minister Mutko approved his concept of MSTC for further state-level implementation across the Russian Federation under the strategic development programme for the construction sector.[21][22][5]
