Ryan Gattis

Ryan Gattis is an American novelist. He is the author of five novels and two novellas, which have been translated into a dozen languages. His novel All Involved won an Alex Award in 2016, as well as the French Lire Award for Noir of the Year. Most of his work falls under the genre of crime fiction, and is set either partially or entirely in the city of Los Angeles.

Biography[edit]

Gattis was born on an Air Force base in Illinois and grew up in Colorado Springs, CO. He earned a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Chapman University and a Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia. He taught creative writing for 10 years at Chapman University.

In 2015, Gattis gave a TED Talk about his background and how it informed his writing process.

Gattis is a member of the street art collective UGLARworks, and is a PEN America prison-writing mentor.
