Ryan Johansson (born 15 February 2001) is a Luxembourg-born Irish football player who currently plays for Bayern Munich.
Early Life
Johansson was born and raised in Luxembourg to an Irish mother and a Swedish father. He has an older brother called Sean.
Club career
Johansson started playing football with Luxembourgish side Racing FC. He later moved to Metz in France. It was there he was spotted and scouted by Bayern Munich. He joined the Bavarians in 2017 signing a 3 year deal set to expire in 2020. He appeared for Bayern during the clubs 2018 preseason tour of the United States in the International continental Cup against Juventus and Manchester City and PSG.
International career
Johansson is eligible to play for Republic of Ireland national team , Sweden and the Luxembourg.
He has represented Luxembourg at under 16, under 17, under 19 and under 21 level. In 2017 he represented Sweden's under 16 team.
In September 2018 Johnsson was called up to the Ireland under 19 team for two friendlies against Wales. He came off the bench as a substitute in first match and started to following match. He asked not to be included in under 19 elite qualifiers squad in November 2018 as he wanted time to decide his international future. In February 2019 Johansson committed his international future to the Republic of Ireland. He had to file a one time switch with Fifa as he had played for Luxembourg in competitive matches. He's one of Ireland's best prospects. [1]
