Ryeong Hwa Lee (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist., Ryeong Hwa Lee; also known in Japanese as り・りょんふぁ) is a Japanese-based violinist of Korean heritage. She is known for her performances as a soloist and chamber musician, as well as for her teaching activities in Tokyo.
Early life and education
Lee was born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, and began studying the violin at the age of five. She graduated from the Music Department of Saitama Prefectural Omiya Koryo High School and later earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Tokyo College of Music.[1] She studied violin under Rina Nakata, Kazuko Wada, Yasuko Ohtani, Keiko Shimada, and Masayuki Kino.
Career
Lee received the Second Prize (Chairman’s Award) and the Osaka Mayor’s Award at the 9th Mio-tsukushi Osaka Classical Music Competition. She also won the Excellence Award at the 56th Oikawa Music Office Audition as a member of the violin-piano duo “Scintillio.”
In October 2017, she performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Soka Philharmonic Orchestra.[2] In May 2025, she appeared as a soloist in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Kunito Int’l Youth Orchestra, conducted by her husband Kunito Nishitani.[3]
She serves as a faculty member of the Shakuji International Orchestra and the Kunito International Youth Orchestra (including solfège classes).[4][5] In addition, she teaches at several music schools such as Miyaji Music School and is active as a member of the violin duo “Arius.” She is also a certified JAKC Kids Coaching® Advisor.
