S. Ramakrishnan
Professor Srinivasan Ramakrishnan [1] [2]is one of the leading scientists in experimental low-temperature physics. He belongs to the few best low-temperature physicists in India. He is currently a Distinguished Professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research(TIFR), Mumbai, and the Director of the TIFR, Mumbai.
Career[edit]
Professor Srinivasan Ramakrishnan did his MSc. Physics in I.I.T. Madras in the year 1977-1979. He joined Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) for his Ph.D(1979-1985) to study superconductivity in transition metal compounds. Subsequently, he joined TIFR as a faculty in 1985.
Awards[edit]
1. International Humboldt award (April 2015) to carry out research at the University of Bayreuth, Germany.
2. International Humboldt award (August 2012) to carry out research at the University of Goettigen, Germany.
3. International JSPS award (March 2010) given to outstanding senior scientists by Japanese Physical Society.
4. Elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore 2002.
5. International Humboldt award (Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel award): Given to scientists and scholars, internationally renowned in their field, who completed their doctorates less than 18 years ago and who in future are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements which will have a seminal influence on their discipline beyond their immediate field of work (November 2001).
6. Centre of Excellence (COE) STA fellowship given to outstanding scientists to carry out research work from August 96-March 97 at the National Institute for Research in Metals, Tsukuba, Japan.
7. NWO (Netherland Government Award) for foreign specialist to do research and guide students in Kamerlingh Onnes Laboratory, Netherlands 1996-1997.
8. Sathyamurty award by Indian Physics Association for the best young Solid State Physicist in 1990 for the outstanding research work done in India and abroad.
9. Alexander Humboldt Fellowship in 1987 to work at the ultra low temperature laboratory at the University of Bayreuth, Germany from 1987-1989 under Prof.Frank Pobell.
10. Best Ph.D. thesis (Geetha Udgaonkar award) of the year 1986-87 by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 1987.
11 . Merit scholarship at Indian Institute Of Technology, Madras in 1978 for the best performance in the first year MSc. (Physics).
12. First rank (first among 10000 students in BSc (applied sciences) in the University of Madras 1977. Principal’s prize and a medal awarded.
13. Best student teacher award in 1977 at PSG college of Technology, Madras University.
