SAHETI
South African Hellenic Educational and Technical Institute (SAHETI) is a Greek orthodox school in Germiston, South Africa. It was established in 1974 by a group of Greek community leaders in the Gauteng area under the leadership of Advocate , a legal titan in African history George Bizos [1] [2][3] The school ranks amongst the top independent schools in South Africa.[4] SAHETI is situated in Senderwood, Bedfordview, Germiston on the eastern outskirts of Johannesburg.

Motto ‘Know Thyself’[edit]
It opened its doors to all South African language and ethnic groups and with students of from about 35 nationalities , welcoming widely diverse communities to share in its values-driven, universal education, practising enlightened teaching methods and pursuing academic excellence accompanied by a rich cultural life. The school motto ‘Know Thyself’, from Socrates’ famous dictum in ancient Greece, speaks to self-reflection. The school`s values are routed in the Hellenic culture which upholds principles relating to tradition, ethics, family and an inclusion of all people through a journey of self-discovery.
Campus[edit]
The SAHETI campus and buildings is reflected in its progressive architectural design which has received awards from the Institute of South African Architects. [5] The campus includes , basketball courts, netball courts, tennis courts, sports fields, school hall, library, swimming pool, 400m athletics track[6]The expansive grounds have allowed for the development of sports facilities, to cater for a wide variety of activities which include : basketball, cricket, coss country, hockey, netball, rugby, softball, swimming, tennis, water polo, golf, touch rugby, athletics, and biathlon
Cultural Activity[edit]
The range of cultural activity the school offers is impressive :whether it be Greek dancing, singing or drama, SAHETI provides all with a taste of the Mediterranean while remaining firmly grounded in our South African identity. List of activities offered are :bouzouki band, chess, choir, classical Greek dance, contemporary band, debating, eisteddfod, Greek dance, life saving service, marimbas, matric dance , drama production, multi media club, music, one act play Festival, outreach, public speaking, radio station, sound and lighting, writers' circle.[7] SAHETI is also involved with "Leaders For Our Future “ seminars organized by www.ticls.org.
Legacy[edit]
George Bizos the inspirational figure behind the formation of SAHETI has left a legacy to underprivileged students wanting to be educated at SAHETI , the George Bizos SAHETI Scholarship and bursary fund.[8]
