Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Puay Chai or also called SJK(C) Puay Chai is a Chinese-type national primary school located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

History

Before the opening of the school

The school was first proposed by the board of directors of SJK(C) Puay Chai to build another school, and they did so by applying to the Ministry of Education on September 13, 1994.[1] The plan to build another school was eventually approved by the then Minister of Education, Dato' Sri Najib Razak on September 20th 1999.[2] After the Ministry of Education found a suitable place for the school, they approved the construction of four three-storey school buildings built on a six-acre land in Bandar Utama BU3 with the construction cost being around RM3.2 million. The board of directors from SJK(C) Puay Chai allocated 10,000 Ringgit of funds for the school and appointed the then vice principal, Ms Tang Gui Lan, as the first principal of SJK(C) Puay Chai 2.[1]

The opening of the school

The school officially opened on January 3rd, 2001. On the same day, they also shared the school, SJK(C) Damansara, after it had moved from its location to its current location.[3] On September 19th, 2001, SJK(C) Damansara had officially moved out as their new campus construction was finished.[1]

2013-2024(Present)

A few years after the school first opened, the place started to get crowded. So, the board of directors and PTA demolished the canteen to build a three-story auditorium and administrative building on the original site, and converted the old offices, teachers' lounge and library into classrooms. In 2013, the three-story auditorium and administrative building were completed. In 2014, the school began plans to build a well-equipped gymnasium. On March 3rd, 2015, the school gained the title "Sekolah Kluster Kecemerlangan". In 2018, the gymnasium was finished by Principal Peng Lizhen and Principal Soh Swee Koon. In 2021, the school was included in the "Program Transformasi Sekolah" (TS25).[1]
