SKENG

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Born Kevon Douglas on the 13th of February 2001 to teenage parents in the inner-city community of Kingston, Jamaica, Craig Town. Kevon was an active and advanced child raised by a solid family unit, including his maternal grandparents, who were integral to his upbringing. His family was heavily influenced by Christian values, and he was a committed churchgoer and believer. A reasonably well-behaved and mannered child, Kevon showed interest in cars, music, art, and design. He would often draw and paint and create images that would astonish his family. As a child, he wanted to become a journalist, but he later commented that it required too much talking. His mom was a hard worker and an academic who studied and worked whilst teaching young Kevon to exceed his peer groups' expectations. During her evening home teaching, she noticed he had a keen interest in the English language and broad vocabulary, which would be highlighted later in his genius writing within his music. With his father living overseas, Kevon travelled extensively during his teenage years, building a network of friends in the United States and Jamaica, specifically Spanish Town, where he and his mother relocated and settled. It was here SKENG was born. "Kevon is talented, but SKENG is gifted," says the mother of the Billboard artist. As a lover of dancing, he would hit street parties with other well-known dancers before transitioning into dancehall music. SKENG attended several schools, including Irish Gelly Primary School, Wolmer's High School for Boys, and Quality Academics. However, at his final stop, Excelsior Community College, this musical genius started to focus heavily on his musical career.

In 2019 his creative path was encouraged by many; however, it was special friendships with his now prominent producer and co-manager, Ditruth Records, that initiated the "Brrpp" artist to fully flourish his craft. He then started to record his music in a New Kingston studio. During the infant stages, the Spanish Town lyricist, SKENG, got his big break when he released the widespread single "Gvnman Shift", which had TikTok and the party scene in a frenzy. In July 2022, SKENG signed a deal with Geejam Music for publishing and has built a tremendous collaborative relationship.

In 2021 SKENG collaborated with dancehall artist Tommy Lee to produce his highest streaming track. Protocol SKENG has released over 30 songs, including hits in 2022, such as London, produced by Droptop Records and Gang Bang, also in 2022, produced by DiTruth Records. SKENG has developed into a strong performer and has earned spots on stages worldwide. The dancehall artist has been labelled a rockstar.

He has received praise and support from other artists from other genres, including the iconic Nicki Minaj, who collaborated with him on his edgy track Likkle Miss. The Grammy-awarded artist then extended the production to another record dubbed Fine 9, which entered mainstream charts and charted at number 4 on the Billboard.

When asked about his sound and how the world would react to him, SKENG responded, "I am a rare breed; they are not supposed to understand me". They blame me, judge me and listen to my music”. SKENG is "...the future". (Nicki Minaj) "Skeng broke ground during a global pandemic exhibiting a larger-than-life character. He was consistent and different, and with limited marketing tools, he dominated dancehall with trends, viral moments and records which captivated fans worldwide". (Seani B BBC 1XTRA) “The vibe with Skeng in the studio is always good because we understand what we want to accomplish – we share similar goals, So I always try to assist him in getting the final results with a unique touch”.
