SL Osprey is a steam launch owned and operated by the Windermere Jetty Museum. Originally built as a private steam launch for leisure cruising on Lake Windermere, she was acquired by her present day owners in 1981 for restoration and conservation. The museum now uses her daily for excursions on the lake. She is also a member of the National Historic Fleet.[1]
Osprey was built in 1902 by Neil Shepherd in Bowness-on-Windermere on Lake Windermere for the Bowness Bay Boating Company. Her engine, built in 1901, was a single, compound steam engine with the steam being produced by a locomotive boiler fired by wood. In 1981, Osprey was given a new boiler.[2] She has a length of 45.48ft (13.86 m), a beam of 8ft (2.4 m), and a depth of 2.98ft (0.91 m). Osprey is one of three vessels that is built from teak planking with a canoe stern.[1] </gallery>
