Global Multimedia Creative School (Indonesian: SMK Global Multimedia) is a vocational high school founded by Denny Sung.
History
Global Multimedia Creative School was established in 2017 under the ownership of Denny Sung. Through the school, it provides a field of expertise in Multimedia which consists of graphic design, photography, videography, animation, audio, interactivity and business subjects. It also combines a creative curriculum from the UK and Korea, making it the first high school in Indonesia that requires students to play games, read comics, and watch films. The school is oriented towards industry 4.0 standards, and also encourages and teaches students to have an entrepreneurial spirit, where all the students are required to start their own businesses and begin to prepare themselves financially for their future. Moreover, the CEO,[1] Mr. Sung wants to convey that the Multimedia Vocational School he manages is ready to educate young people to develop creativity, especially in the field of e-sports and various contemporary content since the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)[2] and various current advances require a variety of creativity to develop capabilities in order to continue to advance in the conditions of the times. Therefore, the need for schools that are able to produce expertise in the world of information technology is very much needed. In 2023 Mr. Sung started thinking to expand the School to Surabaya. With hard efforts Mr. Sung opened the 4th branch of Global Multimedia Creative School in Pattimura Street No.3, Sukomanunggal, Surabaya which is called SMK Global Multimedia Surabaya.
Extracurricular
The activities that occur in the school are categorized as clubs. Activities are listed in the following details:
- Sports
- Game Development and Digital Drawing
- E-Sports
The students are given the freedom to choose which extracurriculars fit them best and are able to develop their own talents and abilities.
Academics
The school uses an educational multimedia system influenced by UK and Korean International curriculums but uses a national 2013 curriculum. The school requires students to provide resources by using a variety of media in an integrated way for the purpose of instruction. By doing so, the school provides resources to students in ways that best suit their learning needs. Some other private schools, vocational schools, and high schools usually rely on either aid funds for the students to obtain books or the students obtain the books themselves. However, in this particular vocational high school, the school encourages students to acquire a laptop and tablet to have as an integrated source of knowledge. In graphics, the school visualizes it as a way to manifest an idea in creative ways as well as video games and board games for students to explore and learn the concept of game development such as HTML, coding theory, game design and computer programming. In the field subject of business, the school gives the students assignments to keep in touch with them to see if the student made any progress to financially and economically sustain their plans in a firm mindset such as SWOT analysis, in control of budget, etc. If the student exercises their determination in their business well, the school will give the student a highlight for keeping the level and spirit of entrepreneurship.
Events
The school offers events[3] that are fundamental and knowledgeable for the purpose of boosting up the student's experience by also having conferences, conventions, exhibitions[4] and study tours in a social engagement while getting familiar with the industry. The school believes that it will get students to have a strong link between experiences of other such events to keep a strong social bond. One of the main factors of the school is how the social community in the school functions in a good school spirit. The most important thing that the high school implements for the students is to have a strong social atmosphere while learning. Events provide an opportunity to bring outsiders in. It gives a measure of anticipation, enjoyment, attendance and absence.
