SNAC International is a trade association in the global snack industry. SNAC International has over 400 members worldwide. Based in Arlington, Virginia, the association represents snack manufacturers, marketers and suppliers ranging from providers of traditional savory and sweet snacks to innovative better-for-you products; suppliers of packaging, equipment, ingredients comprise the Associate membership of SNAC International. SNAC International claims to have more than 400 member companies worldwide.[1]
History
SNAC International's predecessor firm, the National Potato Chip Institute, was founded in 1937 as the brainchild of the owners of Num Num Foods in Cleveland, Ohio.[2] which was acquired in the 1950s by the Frito Company (predecessor of Frito-Lay).[3]
In 1976 the association broadened its scope to become the Potato Chip-Snack Food Association, which finally morphed into simply the Snack Food Association.
In 2016 the Snack Food Association rebranded itself into SNAC International, reflecting its more global and forward-looking aspirations for a rapidly growing industry.[4]
The association is currently led by President & CEO Elizabeth Avery.[5] SNAC's board of directors is currently led by Rob Sarlls, President & CEO of Wyandot Snacks. The Associate Executive Council is currently chaired by David Read, SVP, Sales, Printpack.[6]
Programs
ADVOCACY SNAC's government affairs team develops legislation and regulations that impact its members’ ability to manufacture and market their products on key topics, such as: Nutrition Facts Labeling implementation; sodium reduction; definition of “Healthy”; Bioengineered Food Disclosure; freedom of choice for SNAP participants; Proposition 65, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. SNAC also keeps its members a step ahead of impending regulations, such as labeling standards and food safety best practices.
NETWORKING SNAC offers trade shows and programs to connect snack manufacturers and suppliers. Every SNAC program includes snack manufacturers, marketers and suppliers, fostering relationship building and the exchange of information. Collaboration amongst industry professionals is key to driving the growth of the snack industry.
EDUCATION SNAC helps its members remain on the leading edge of knowledge needed to successfully manage and grow their businesses. From seminars with high-profile industry speakers to monthly webinars, SNAC helps its members stay ahead of industry trends and best practices. Most of SNAC's educational opportunities are available at no cost for members.
