SSM College of Engineering is a private engineering college situated at Parihaspora, Pattan, Baramulla J&K, 20 km away from summer capital Srinagar on Srinagar- Baramulla highway.[1][2] It is approved by AICTE and affiliated with University of Kashmir.[3]
History
The college has been established in the year 1988. It earlier started as a Polytechnic college in a rented building and after a decade it upgraded to an engineering college.[1][4]
It has been awarded grade "B+" by the NAAC.[5] The college has entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with many governmental as well as private institutions like National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, Tata Technologies, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay etc.[6][7]
Courses
It offers Technical education at graduate level in the branches of Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical and Electronics & Communication Engineering and post-graduate courses M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, M.Tech. Electronics & Communication, MCA and MBA besides UG course of BBA.[8][9]
Campus
The SSM College of Engineering operates from a single campus spread over a large area of land on a lush green hillock near the famous 12th century historic city of Parihaspora.[1]
Library
The college houses a central library and departmental libraries in each department. At present, the main library holds over 51,798 books, 300 print journals, provides access to over 1500 multimedia resources. It also have institution membership of National Digital Library of India.[10]
Hostel
The college has two separate Hostels for Boys and Girls.[10][4]
Transport
The college's transport service covers almost all the nearby major cities, including Srinagar, Sopore, Baramulla, Ganderbal, and other parts of the Kashmir Valley.[10]
Controversies
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir started a campus-wide demolition campaign in August 2021, claiming that the administration had encroached over several kanals of government land.[11]
