In 2011 Saanich Fusion FC was formed when the Gordon Head Soccer Association (GHSA) and the Cordova Bay Soccer Association (CBSA) formally amalgamated.[1] SFFC has over 1900 registered members, players range from ages 3 years to over 60.

The colours worn by its teams are white and blue.

History of the Gordon Head Soccer Association[edit]

Youth soccer was first organized in the Gordon Head area by Doug Day in 1956/57, with the formation of the Majestic Eagles at Majestic Park. In 1969/70, the Gordon Head Cosmopolitan Soccer Association started playing at the Lambrick Estate Park.

In 1978/79, the Gordon Head Girls Soccer League, started by Barb and Del Anderson, joined forces with the Gordon Head Soccer Association. Since the amalgamation both boys and girls have been very successful in achieving British Columbia, Island, District and League championships.

Senior Men's and Womans' teams began soon after the establishment of the girls soccer league and in the last few years has grown with the addition of Masters level soccer teams (over 35's, over 40's and over 50's men's teams) as well as womans teams. Currently, GHSA has 17 senior teams.

In 2000 Gordon Head Soccer built a clubhouse on the Tyndall Park site. 2008 saw the redevelopment of the lower Tyndall field. It was resurfaced with artificial turf (Brock pad base with ICI carpet). This is now one of the best soccer facilities on the island.

Jamboree[edit]

The Saanich Fusion Jamboree, which started in 1979 as the Gordon Head Jamboree, was an international youth soccer tournament held annually in mid-April. This tournament was for boys and girls ages 10 to 17 and has both competitive and recreational pools. In 2008, there were 173 teams (130 from out of town) from all over the Pacific Northwest including teams from Yellowknife, Oregon, Washington State and all over BC.

This tournament attracted approximately 3200 players plus parents, coaches, and referees. In 2008, there were 692 games played using 19 fields, and 64 referees. The tournament was estimated to bring over $1,000,000 into the local economy.

The Titans[edit]

The Saanich Fusion Titans (Vancouver Island League Div 1 Men's) were the flagship team of the Gordon Head Soccer Association. Over the last few years, the Titans have ranked among the most successful teams on the island. The team was sponsored by Applebee's Grill and Bar in 2011–2012. The team won their first ever Division 1 league title in the 2011–2012 season and again in 2012–2013 as Saanich Fusion. Subsequently, this team also won the 2013–14 league title and the Jackson Cup in 2014.

The Nearly Dead[edit]

The Gordon Head Nearly Dead are an Over 50 men's team primarily made up of coaches from within Gordon Head and are very active in the running of the club.
