Sabe Lewellyn is an visual artist and writer.[1]
In 2001 Sabe Lewellyn completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Memphis College of Art. And wrote in the Memphis Flyer against the closing of Memphis College of Art.[2] He briefly studied at New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture and completed the EDGE professional program from Artist Trust[3] in 2012. After taking Best of Show in a group show juried by Gary Hill at the Center on Contemporary Art[4] in Seattle, Sabe focused on new ways to create innovative work. His first solo show using these new mediums was in 2014 at Gallery 110 in Seattle[5]
That year he appeared twice in Bare Hill Publishing's "The State of Art” book series, one volume for his previous painting work, the other for his new work.[6]
In May of 2015, Sabe transported a boat he spent a year designing, to the Gulf Coast and assembled it to row out and live alone on the U.S. barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico[7] His current work now deals with the experiences there.
Since then Sabe has added his body as a medium for his work through performance. While studying at Glasgow School of Art[8], he attended residencies at Hospitalfield House, and Art/Earth/Tech in La Cheraille, France and received a Sustainability in Action Group Grant. In 2018, he graduated with Merit as a Master of Fine Arts[9] and was exhibited in a solo show at the Pipe Factory[8] in Glasgow.
