Sagar Desai

Sagar Desai is an American musician and a composer who has worked in numerous films and TV shows. He is known for his work in films like A Death in the Gunj, Bheja Fry, Ankhon Dekhi and Quickgun Murugan among others.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

A self-taught musician, Sagar grew up jamming with his cousins in the suburbs of Chicago. After earning a degree in architecture from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne, he began his career at a design firm to further his interest in the visual arts. Two years later, he moved to Chennai, India to help a friend produce an album which never got made. Sagar was led to musician Sandeep Chowta while working on ad films. After two years in Madras, he moved to Mumbai, to work in the Hindi Film Industry.[2]

Bio[edit]

In Mumbai, Sagar formed a band Zambezi Funk with his rapper friend Blaaze before hitting it off with films like Mixed Doubles, A Death in the Gunj, the Bheja Fry series, Dil Kabaddi, Quickgun Murugun and Ankhon Dekhi among others. He was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Background Score for the film A Death in the Gunj. He composed music for Geetu Mohandas’ Moothon, which was the opening film at MAMI. Recently, he composed several tracks for Netflix’s Yeh Ballet and What Are The Odds. He also worked on Kadakh[3] and Nandita Das’s short - Listen to Her.
