Saint Petka Serbian Orthodox Church in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is part of the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Canada under the jurisdiction of Bishop Mitrofan (Kodić) of Canada. The parish is located at 23 Rainy Court in Saskatoon.[1][2].

History[edit]

There are records of Serbian families that have settled in Saskatchewan during the late 19th century and the turn of the 20th century, most of whom came from Croatia and Vojvodina which at the time was part of Austria-Hungary[3]. At first they settled in rural regions such as the village of Kenaston, Truax and other agricultural communities, where they took up farming, then others moved to larger towns and cities auch as Regina and Saskatoon. In Regina they built the first Serbian Orthodox Church in Canada during the Great War. It was much later, after the Yugoslav Wars that a new Serbian church -- Saint Petka -- was founded in 2011, and incoporated a year later (2012) in Saskatoon[4]
