Sajjan Raj Vaidya

Sajjan Raj Vaidya, a Nepali singer and full-stack web developer, is a fusion of expressive vocals, intricate metaphors, and unique song structures that culminate in a complete musical journey. He gained prominence with the release of singles such as "Hawaijahaj" (2016) and "Chitthi Bhitra" (2018). One of his most widely recognized singles is "Hataarindai, Bataasindai." In February 2020, he launched "BLYHL," followed by "Phutki Janey Jovan" on May 16, 2020, which featured clips highlighting people worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a special focus on the Nepali community. On January 1, 2021, he released "Lukaamaari," followed by "Ultaa Paailaa" three months later. Alongside the releases of "Parkhaai" and "Naganya Maya," he unveiled two new singles, "Sasto Mutu" and "Ek Sarvanaam," at the beginning of 2022.

Early Life

Sajjan Raj Vaidya, born on September 9, 1991, in Kathmandu, Nepal, was immersed in the world of music from an early age, thanks to his family. His musical journey is deeply rooted in the teachings and influences passed down by his family members. Reflecting on this, he shared, “My story with music began with my family. My mother imparted the art of singing to me, my father instilled a love for music in all its forms, and my brother guided me in evolving with music. So, any style or influence I possess is a blend of what I learned from my family. My enduring passion for music stems from my genuine love for it.”

Vaidya's musical palette was shaped by diverse genres and artists, including The Eagles, UB40, Linkin Park, and Karna Das, among others. He initiated his live performances during his school days and later started sharing his creations on platforms like Facebook.

Career

Vaidya's inaugural significant release was "Aaja Matra" in 2014. His subsequent single, "Hawaijahaj" in 2016, marked a pivotal moment in his career. The music video for this song was produced by Fuzz Factory Productions. Following this, he (re)introduced "Mooskaan" in 2018 and released "Anountho Mutu" in the same year.

On January 1, 2019, Sajjan unveiled the single "Hataarindai, Bataasindai." The music video, featuring both a heterosexual and a homosexual couple, bravely depicted a gay couple kissing—a rarity in Nepali media. Vaidya stands out as one of the few Nepali artists actively representing the LGBTQ community through his video releases.

In reflecting on the creation of "Hataarindai, Bataasindai," Vaidya emphasized that the initial concept was independent of the video. However, recognizing the underrepresentation of the LGBTQ community in Nepal, they decided to address the issue, giving rise to the impactful video.

This 2019 single has since been embraced by the LGBTQ community in Nepal as an anthem, notably featured during the country's first pride parade held in July 2019.
