Saleh Sokhandan (Persian: صالح سخندان) (born on October 27, 1990, Tehran) is an Iranian designer of Optical Artwork, 3-D Optical illusion and the founder of VIDAVIN[1][non-primary source needed] and SALSO studio.[2][non-primary source needed] He has been entitled as Mr. Op Art due to his artworks.[3] He dropped study of Electrical engineering at university as he interested in Optical illusion. He had experience and background in graphic design before he started working professionally.[4] He has created many personal and business artifactsdesigned in his artistic style. He has attended in Asre Jadid talent television competitions in Iran.[5]
Life[edit]
Saleh Sokhandan was born on October 27, 1990, in Tehran. Because of his interest in engineering, mathematics, and art he worked in graphics.[6][non-primary source needed] While he was passing the second year in electrical engineering at K. N. Toosi University of Technology in 2010, he got to know the Optical illusion and his early project was completed in Anamorphosis in one year.
Therefore this event led him to drop out of electrical engineering to deal with the projects in Anamorphosis. He has been studying and designing Optical illusion artifacts since 2011. His first exhibition in Optical illusion was performed as a 3-D painting although it was not his first experience.[7] Also, he is a digital 3-D painter.[8][non-primary source needed]
Sokhandan has created hundreds of personal and business artwork during his work experience that in general can be named as park construction, big museum structure, graphic designing, and sculpturing based on Optical illusion[9][non-primary source needed] and layout and drawing 3-D artifacts[10]. Roya Park in Darabad,[11][non-primary source needed] the Reverse House in Chitgar[12][non-primary source needed] and Illusiona in Iran Mall[13][non-primary source needed] are some examples of his designs in Tehran, Iran.
Since 2014, he has produced some tagged output different from those common ones in decoration.[14]
In 2015, Saleh Khandan established an art group named Mr. Op Art including the experts of this area who had been experiencing designing Optical illusion from 2011 with many artworks published on social media.[15]
Painting Style[edit]
The Optical illusion artworks are the ones that they are not something they seem at first sight and even they look complicated or undisciplined but at a particular corner or angel, they are tangible. According to Sokhandan, there is no academic reference that has truly explained this fact and even no encyclopedic book to consist of it. As a consequence, the optical illusion is an interdisciplinary topic that is a mix of medicine, art, and engineering. There is a need of understanding the brain and vision system function plus geometry, physics, and lights to pursuit.[4]
Saleh Khandan uses improvisation to conduct his first designing. At first, he used to create some work that they were not paid attention to because of being a novel subject. But after a while, his works have been considered more as they have been broadcast on the internet and social media especially as a new era to use for advertisement and entertainment.[4]
According to Sokhandan, the optical illusion paintings were first drawn via gypsum pastels as street art. The goal of this kind of art is to convey the artist's messages and purposes. Consequently, not only the art itself did not have to be assumed as the base, but also the output is significant to be considered, for instance, the pictures taken from them. So there is no necessity of longevity though it can be increased via using particular materials and colors.[4]
Artworks[edit]
In 2010, he started his job through multi-surface transformed designing on the billboards in a commercial complex parking lot. These billboards and signs are used to help the drivers to find their ways toward the exit.[16][non-primary source needed]
In 2011, he drew his first 3-D painting using charcoal and sidewalk chalk on 17 square meters of the ground in the Chitgar Park that after one day it was wiped away by the rain.[17][18][non-primary source needed]
In 2012, he drew the picture of Milad Tower in order of the Tehran Municipality using acrylic color on the ground in the Artists Park.[19][non-primary source needed][20][non-primary source needed]
In 2015, he designed the logo of TEDxTehran in the Razi International Conference Hall.[21][non-primary source needed][22]
In 2018, the first Optical illusion in Iran with the name "Roya Park" was established under Sokhandan's observation and designing[23][24] and also other native experts and designers of an engineering and artistic team.[25][26] There are some Iranian traditional signs in different departments of this structure like the magic carpet, Arash, Simurgh, and Asiatic cheetah that leads to an interesting feeling of native-born for visitors.[27]
In October 2019, the reverse house project located in Chitgar Lake in the subject of upside-down rooms was started.[12][non-primary source needed][28] There are a lot of different upside-down museums all over the world so the reverse house was the first specific one in Iran though there were three reverse gravity rooms beforehand.[29][30]
In November 2019, he created Ali Shariati's portrait using the optical illusion design in order of the Art and cultural affairs of Tehran Metro in Shariati subway station. In this artwork, Shariat's books are used that with different corners of the exhibition, the portrait is easily able to see.[31][non-primary source needed][32]
His participation in Asre Jadid Iranian talent TV competition[edit]
In the second season of a televised talent competition named Asre Jadid, Sokhandan went on stage to show his skill and talent in an optical illusion. He was accepted at the verification level and then in this season, his performance was selected to show up on the first level.[33][34] In the ninth part of this competition, he was buzzed three times by bashir Hoseyni, Amin Hayai, and Roya Nonahali who are three judges of the show but not by Arya Aziminejad.[35] His performance was a synthesis of painting and engineering that in the end was brought unexpected results in an undisciplined manner.[36][37] In the final part, he was one of the selections among participants to enter the second section.[38]
