Salt Communications is a cybersecurity company that provides encrypted communications between devices with centralised control for the enterprise. Salt Enterprise is generally used to protect trade secrets and other sensitive, strategic and proprietary information. [1]

Salt Communications encryption framework, mobile usability, deployment flexibility, and comprehensive control functions are designed to help strengthen and reinforce a company's security posture. [2]

History[edit]

2013-2014: The Founding of Salt Communications[edit]

SaltDNA was founded in 2013 by a group of tech entrepreneurs with a shared history in enterprise security, telecoms, network optimization and mobile application development - now re-branded to Salt Communications. While the market is packed with consumer based encryption communication technologies, the founders of Salt recognised that none of these solutions fit well within an enterprise's operating framework. 2014-2015: VPN, MDM, Content Filtering and Secure Messaging[edit]

During 2014 Salt Communications began working on VPN, MDM and content filtering. Also developing proof of concept, use-case testing and closed market validation. Late 2014 was the first public version of the secure messaging service was made available.

2015-2016: Calls[edit]

In 2015 the calling feature was released for secure end-to-end encryption calls.

2016-2017: Conferencing and Desktop[edit]

In 2016 released conference calling and desktop V1.

2017-2018: Recognition and Advanced Enterprise Features[edit]

In 2017 Salt achieved success by winning Company of the Year for Innovation in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy at the Ovum On The Radar Awards 2017 and being named #244 in the Cybersecurity 500 - a list of the world’s hottest and most innovative cybersecurity companies. This was the highest ranking for any secure enterprise communication provider. Salt Communication's began offering many features that are exclusive to the market such as, message/call content archival, closed user groups, file/image transfer, burn functionality (message can be removed from both devices (sender and receiver) by either party regardless of where it originated) and 24/7 support. In 2017 Salt released a compliance offering and Desktop application..

2018-2019: Secure Video / Audio attachments and Broadcasting[edit]

In 2018, SaltDNA released secure audio and video attachments, as well as secure message broadcasting and incidence response.

2020 - 2021:

Salt Communications graduated from LORCA 3 Cohort[1] and re-brand as Salt Communications.[2]

Products[edit]

The company's products enable encrypted mobile phone calls, text messaging, broadcasting, global burn functionality, image transfer and attachment.

SaltIM[edit]

A mobile application for Android and iOS that includes encrypted voice calls and messages, broadcasting, content archival, closed user groups, file/image transfer, and two way burn. Currently available for iOS and Android. It can be used with Wi-FI, EDGE, 3G or 4G cellular anywhere in the world.

SaltDesktop[edit]

A desktop version of the SaltIM application.

Salt Management Portal[edit]

A Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) platform used to provision and manage users remotely, control broadcast channels and set preferences for the SaltIM mobile application.

Business Model[edit]

Salt Communications is privately funded and operates under a subscription business model.

Salt's main market strategy is to work closely with local partners who act as resellers or referrals into large enterprises and governments.

Awards[edit]

Salt Communications success was evident throughout 2020 into 2021 by continuing to win many sought after awards such as Security Leader of the Year [3]at the Leadership Excellence Awards 2021 and being shortlisted for the Mobile Industry Awards[4] Best Mobile Service & Solution and Innovation of the Year.

Since the beginning of 2021 Salt Communications have also been shortlisted for the AOTMP Awards[5] Telecom / Mobility / IT Vendors of the Year category, The British Data Awards[6] Innovation of the Year category, DevOps Excellence Awards[7] - DevOps Leader of the Year and DevOps Rising Start of the Year, as well as the FStech Awards[8] CyberSecurity Solution of the Year and finally Salt have been successfully shortlisted in four categories for local Belfast awards Digital DNA.

In 2020 Salt Communications graduated from Tech Nation’s first ever Cyber cohort and the LORCA 3 cohort. The Tech Nation Cyber programme was a six month cohort which was launched to assist ambitious UK cyber companies during the scaling process of their company. Salt Communications also joined the LORCA 3 programme that was set out to support the most promising cyber solutions that can help organisations to stay safe in a connected world. LORCA’s cybersecurity ecosystem connects startups, scaleups, academics, investors, government and industry from around the world to address the biggest security challenges facing the digital economy. Now in 2021 Salt Communications have been selected for the LORCA Ignite scaling programme[9] which entails a high curriculum programme to allow the company to grow even further to the next stage.
