Sam Ryder Robinson, better known as Sam Ryder, is a singer/songwriter and rhythm guitarist from Essex, England. He has worked in the music industry since 2009, starting out with rock band The Morning After. The band released the metalcore album You Can't Hurt Steel on July 6, 2009 to positive reviews..[1][2]. They followed up with Legacy in 2011.[3]
In 2010, while a member of The Morning After, Ryder stepped in to fill the place of Casey Jones, backing vocalist and rhythm guitarist of Blessed By A Broken Heart, a glam rock band that was touring Europe at the time. Jones had dropped out of the tour to attend the birth of his first child. In July 2012, Ryder joined the band full time, and appeared on their single "Out of Control". The band broke up two months later, and Ryder moved on to become lead vocalist for Close Your Eyes, an American Christian hardcore band from Abilene, Texas.
Ryder replaced long-time Close Your Eyes frontman Shane Redmond, causing concern among the band's fans.[4] Nevertheless, the band's 2013 album Line in the Sand was well-received[5][6][7] and charted at 39 on the US Christian Albums chart. While frontman for Close Your Eyes, Ryder was known as Sam Ryder Robinson. On December 15, 2014, Ryder announced his decision to leave the band.[8] He returned to The Morning After as lead vocalist and guitarist under the name Sam Ryder.
From 2014 to 2019, The Morning After toured American coffee houses and farmers markets.[9]
Solo Career[edit]
In 2019, Ryder co-founded the brand Lone Wolves Creative[10]. On November 15, 2019, he released a cover of the 1992 N-Trance song "Set You Free" as a single after receiving praise from the band[11]
Social Media Fame[edit]
Despite publishing his first post on Instagram on April 1, 2016[12] and posting his first YouTube video on May 9, 2016 [13], Ryder's independent music didn't get traction until the release of "Set You Free." He has garnered the most fan interest on video sharing app TikTok, where he posts covers of popular music. He has 1.2 million followers as of June 11, 2020[14] under the username @samhairwolfryder. As of the same date, his follower count on Instagram is 705,000, and he has 52,400 subscribers on his YouTube channel.
