Background

Shewmaker was born in Columbia, Mo and raised in Gravois Mills, Mo. He was a middle child having 3 older brothers, two older sisters, and a younger brother. Growing up in a lower middle class family in an economically poverty stricken area of the Ozarks made it hard growing up. Hunting and fishing, along with the occasional "fist to cuff" were not only forms of entertainment, but a way of life. The "Shewmaker Boys" as they were well known through the county were infamous along with their cousins, uncles, and grandfathers as a generational force to be reckoned with. Sam, having the athletically inclined physique he had inherited from his locally notorious father, showed signs of promise in boxing, baseball, and about any sport he competed in. Amateur boxing was a family tradition, and his uncle Damon's Gym is where he garnered much of his knowledge and skills in his youth. Until eventually turning Pro and getting the chance to tryout in Philadelphia for the BKFC tryouts. Shewmaker displayed not only talent, but bone crushing power gaining the attention of judges and a place in the Bare Knuckle Boxing Tournament.

Amateur Career

Shewmaker started out in a household full of rough and tumble boys, where fighting was a way of life for them he has said. It also seemed to be a local thing, an environment which helped to nurture his natural talents and abilities. In the year 2000 Shewmaker started taking boxing on an amateur level more seriously, making it official in 2001. Shewmaker went on to win three Kansas City Golden Glove amateur Tournaments. https://www.kansascity.com/sports/article211835979.html Shewmaker knew he had talent, and wanted to pursue his talents. He eventually turned up an ad on Facebook looking for professional fighters eager to join a new re-emerging combat sport of bare knuckle boxing. A sport that had not been officially state sanctioned in the United States since 1889. Shewmaker was excited at the chance of being able to enter the ring ungloved.

BKFC Philadelphia Tryouts

Shewmaker, after seeing an ad on Facebook for a "tryout" to narrow down a field of willing and able fighters to enter the first ever state sanctioned bare knuckle combat sports league, got in touch with the promoters and after hearing his story they were eager to have him come out. Fighters were encouraged to showcase skills such as footwork, punch combinations, etc. A power meter was the final test, recording each fighter's average punch strength. Nobody recorded a score higher than 1300 lbs psi, nobody except Shewmaker who hit a high score of 1,659 which grabbed the attention of everyone there. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/2018/10/19/how-bare-knuckle-boxer-amazes-punching-power/1695114002/ The rest was history and Shewmaker became one of eight other fighters to gain the chance to fight in the BKFC tournament.

BKFC

Shewmaker fought in BKFC1 in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he defeated former Bellator champ Eric_Prindle in 18 seconds in the first round via knockout. Round two of the three round heavyweight tournament was against former K1 Champ Maurice Jackson, where Shewmaker emerged the winner through a split decision. Those two wins allowed Shewmaker to enter into the tournament championship round at BKFC3. There he would face Arnold Adams for the Police Gazette Championship Belt, and the BKFC American Championship Belt. Adams would move on to win the fight by way of split decision. Shewmaker went on to fight in the next event, BKFC4, where he emerged victorious over Joel Paredes. He is currently scheduled to appear in BKFC5, making him the only fighter to compete in all 5 events.
