Samanthas were the erstwhile rulers of small Nadus (Places) under the Chera Dynasty in the southern Indian State of Kerala.

Shri. Appu Nedungadi one of the most famous Samantha, was the author of Kundalatha, which was published in 1887, making it as the first novel published in Malayalam language, spoken in Kerala state, South India. Appu Nedungadi was the founder of literary publications Kerala Pathrika, Kerala Sanchari and Vidya Vinodini. In 1899, he established Nedungadi Bank, the oldest private sector commercial bank in Kozhikode, Kerala. Samantha Samajam is a non political, non-profit, religious, cultural, and charitable organization in order to create better understanding among its members and others and to enhance their social and cultural life based on the traditional ways of life and values of the Samantha Community (Nedungadi, Erady, Thirumulpad, Vellodi, Kartha, etc). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedungadi Any person belonging to the SAMANTHA community by birth, marriage or otherwise, and who subscribes to the ideals of the Samajam is eligible for membership.

Objectives of the Samantha Samajam:

  1. To provide a non-political forum to bring the Samantha community together, to build unity among the Samantha families of not just India but the rest of the Globe.
  2. To enhance the cultural heritage, and to follow the customs, family values and traditions of the Samantha community.
  3. To collect, compile, and maintain a directory of all Samantha families in India, and the rest of the world and to establish and maintain strong relations with other Samantha organizations all over the world.
  4. To organize necessary gatherings and meetings of the Samantha community including national or international conventions and other activities.
  5. To collect the history, culture, Samantha ceremonies, the rich heritage, and share those for the benefit of Samantha members and to identify and publish the procedures of Samantha religious practices from birth to death.
  6. To promote women and youth activities and to develop leadership qualities among them.
  7. To work with other Hindu Organizations and compliment them in their efforts to bring the Hindu Unity.
  8. Provide intellectual and economic assistance upon availability of resources to needy Samantha members, to establish scholarship fund for education of deserving Samantha community members and to establish and promote educational and other service-oriented institutions to help Samantha members all over the world.
  9. To organize and coordinate charity activities and services for the benefit of deserving fellow members of the Samantha community.
  10. To be part of and support to further the activities any International Organization providing a worldwide public forum to bring all Samantha families under one umbrella.
  11. To initiate, support, or promote projects or activities to develop retirement community of Samantha families in India and the rest of the World.
  12. To identify and establish effective methods of communication among the District, State and Country level Samantha organizations and its members including websites, printed matters, and electronic media.
  13. Organize activities and raise finances for the successful implementation of the objectives.
