Composition
This song is about fighting toxic masculinity, and how there is a "mask of masculinity", which is "a mask that's wearing me". The song speaks of the accumulation of men being told to simply 'man up' in times of distress[1]. The sound of the song has been described as a "swarming, deafening racket of high-gain guitars and that piercing, ever-present snare"[2].
Music Video
The video for Samaritans shows clips of "traditional" masculine imagery with men's eyes and occasionally faces crossed out with sketched stars. The video was directed and produced by Theo Watkins[3].
