Samaya Murali (born 29 November 1982) is an Indian civil servant in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), author, and filmmaker. He has worked in customs enforcement, published books on law enforcement themes, and directed Tamil-language films.
Early life and education
Murali was born in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. He earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, in 2003. In 2008, he joined the Indian Revenue Service after qualifying in the Civil Services Examination.[1]
Career
As an IRS officer, Murali has worked in customs enforcement and indirect taxation. In 2021, he received a Certificate of Merit from the World Customs Organization.[2]
Following the 2020 Beirut explosion, Murali supervised the disposal of 740 metric tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored near Chennai.[3]
He also presented a paper at the WCO PICARD Conference on customs response during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was later published in the World Customs Journal.[4]
Publications
Murali contributed to Sunkam: The Heritage of Chennai Customs, which documents the history of customs duty in South India.[5] He has also authored:

Murali directed and composed music for Tamil-language films, including:
