Samuel J. Deutsch is an American entrepreneur known for his work in artificial intelligence, augmented reality, real estate and contemporary art.[1]
Early Life and Education
Samuel J. Deutsch was involved in athletics from a young age, notably becoming the youngest participant on the United States Junior National Rowing Team. He earned titles at prestigious regattas such as the U.S. National Championships, the Head of the Charles Regatta, and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. His achievements earned him recognition in Sports Illustrated.[2]
Deutsch attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with degrees in History and Business. A member of Phi Beta Kappa while at Berkeley, he served as a captain of the Varsity Crew team, earning both academic and athletic accolades.[3]
Career
Deutsch began his professional career in the Real Estate & Lodging Investment Banking division at Bank of America Securities. During this time, he contributed to notable transactions, including advising Blackstone on the privatizations of Equity Office Properties and Hilton Hotels.[4]
Following his tenure in banking, Deutsch co-founded Capella Hotels & Resorts alongside hotelier Horst Schulze, where he held the position of Managing Director and Head of Development.[5]
In 2021, Deutsch founded SAVANT, a company focusing on artificial intelligence and augmented reality within the luxury beauty sector.[6] Together with computer vision scientists Gary Bradski, Anna Kogan, and Tatiana Khanova, Deutsch helped develop technology that tracks finger movements and joint articulations in real-time.[7] This work contributed to the creation of the luxury extended reality brand OUTOFHAND.ai, which blends virtual and physical beauty experiences.[7][8] The brand allows customers to explore and order 3D-printed luxury items, such as custom-sized nails.[7]
Philanthropy
Deutsch has been active in various philanthropic efforts, including co-chairing the Aspen Snow Ball, which raised over $2.5 million for pediatric cancer research.[9][10] A portion of the profits from SAVANT is also allocated to charitable causes.[1]
Personal Life
Deutsch is also an accomplished photographer, known for his black-and-white works.[1] His personal life has occasionally garnered media attention due to his relationships, including those with Daiane Sodré and Sylvie Meis.[11][12]
Awards and Recognition
Throughout his academic career, Deutsch earned several honors, including membership in the Golden Key International Honour Society and the Golden Bear Achievement Award as the top academic scholar on the UC Berkeley crew team. He was also named to the First Team All Pacific Athletic Conference - Academic Rowing and served as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during his time at the university.[13]
