The San Diego Birds are a professional ice hockey team based in Sioux Falls, Dakota. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division within the Western Conference, and are owned by San Diego Sports & Entertainment. They were founded by Cody Taylor, Sofia Drusian and Nico Molson (as the Montreal Canadiens' USA counterpart).
Broadcasting[edit]
San Diego Birds games are broadcast locally the English, Vietnamese, Welsh, and Spanish languages. As of the 2014–15 season, regional television rights to the Seals' regular season games are co-owned by Nickelodeon and ESPN, with games sometimes broadcasted nationally on special occasions. The Seals' designated television market includes Dakota, Nevada, Idaho, Minnesota, Iowa, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Ontario, Alberta, California, and parts of Arizona and and Saskatchewan. Previous rights were held by NBC Sports in conjunction with Nickelodeon. Evan Ledda calls play-by-play, whilst Yannick Newell and Cody Taylor provide color commentary, with Sofia Drusian as the interviewer, and James Rzeznik as live analyst.
