Sandeep Kalra is an American business executive who serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Director of Persistent Systems, an Indian multinational technology services company. He joined the company in 2019 as President of its Technology Services business and was appointed CEO in July 2020.[1]

Kalra has worked in the information technology industry for more than three decades. Prior to joining Persistent Systems, he held leadership positions at HCL Technologies, Samsung Electronics, Symphony Teleca and Harman International.[2]

His leadership of Persistent Systems, including its enterprise AI strategy, acquisition-led growth and international expansion, has been covered by publications including Business Standard, Fortune India, Moneycontrol and Reuters.[3][4][5]

Early life and education

Kalra earned a postgraduate degree in management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta). In 2025, the institute conferred on him its Distinguished Alumnus Award in recognition of his contributions to the technology industry.[2]

Career

HCL Technologies

Kalra began his career with the HCL Group, where he held leadership roles in enterprise technology and software services. He subsequently joined Samsung Electronics before returning to HCL Technologies, where he led global technology and engineering businesses.[2]

Symphony Teleca and Harman International

Kalra later became Chief Executive Officer of Symphony Teleca. Following Harman International's acquisition of Symphony Teleca, he led Harman's Digital Transformation Solutions business, serving enterprise customers across multiple industries.[2]

Persistent Systems

Kalra joined Persistent Systems in 2019 as President of its Technology Services business and was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director in July 2020.[6]

During his tenure, Persistent Systems expanded its capabilities in digital engineering, cloud computing, enterprise artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data-driven transformation. The company also pursued acquisition-led expansion, including its announced acquisition of Nagarro's SAP business in 2026.[7][8][9]

Leadership

Kalra has written and spoken on enterprise artificial intelligence, digital engineering and technology-led business transformation. In interviews with Fortune India and other business publications, he has argued that artificial intelligence will augment human capabilities while increasing productivity and accelerating enterprise innovation.[10]

Awards and recognition

In 2025, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta conferred on Kalra its Distinguished Alumnus Award in recognition of his contributions to the technology industry.[2]

The same year, he was recognised as the joint winner in the Tech Titan category in the BT–PwC India's Best CEOs 2025 study conducted by Business Today.[11]

Fortune India recognised Kalra among its India's Best CEOs 2025 in the IT services category.[12]

Kalra is a member of the Founders' Circle of Indiaspora.[13]
