Sandeep Kumar Goyal is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sanex Packaging Connections Private Limited, popularly known as PackagingConnections.Com. Sanex Packaging Connections Private Limited is India’s first ISO 9001:2015 certified company providing Online Packaging Services and Packaging Consulting Worldwide.
Early life
He was born and brought up in a Goyal family in Haridwar, a small town in the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India, to Late Shri Chandra Prakash Goel, who was employed with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Ranipur, Haridwar. He holds Masters degree in Packaging Technology from Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) headquartered at Mumbai. After working for several years, post his masters, with leading Indian and multinationals, he moved to United States to pursue MS in Packaging Science from College of Applied Science, Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. It was a big decision probably somebody first from India took this bold decision to pursue further studies in packaging after leaving the great rising career behind.
Career
In August 1987, he began his career with Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited located in Delhi NCR, India. He worked initially as the Research Associate and then was promoted to Research Scientist. His work included devising packaging formats for solid dosage forms, medical devices and injectibles. He devised India’s first CRC cap, tamper evident cap on glass bottle and also the dropper inside for oil, this was again India’s first development. He also implemented the 3 piece plastic eye dropper project again for the first time and opened the new scenario. The key packaging materials that he worked upon were the plastic bottles, glass bottles, laminates and various blisters.
After a successful stint of 4 years, in 1991, he moved to Brooke Bond India Limited (now Hindustan Unilever Limited) as Packaging Development Manager at their corporate office and then began his career of innovations in packaging. He has many innovations to his credit but one of the key ones which changed the way tea was packed is the vacuum pack of Taj tea. The pack is sold hard and it is said that hardness is the guarantee of freshness and it still holds true after more than 21 years. This was fully developed in India jointly with Rollatainers Limited and later that pack also won the prestigious World Star Award from World Packaging Organization. He developed and implemented packaging options for tea, coffee, spices, sweet spreads, tomato ketchup, frozen vegetables, ice-creams and deserts. Another key innovation was to bring tomato ketchup in small sachets and tomato puree in tetra pack.
However, his interest towards enhancing his academic skills and knowledge led him to prestigious Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Rochester NY, in 1996, to pursue full time MS in Packaging Science.
After graduating from RIT in 1996 with 3.8/4 GPA, he joined ICI India as Technical Service and Sales Manager in Delhi NCR, India where he looked at creating awareness about the use of PET films.
Moving ahead on leadership role, he was appointed as General Manager in Rexam Medical Packaging in 1998. Mr. Sandeep K. Goyal was also instrumental to set up Rexam Pharma Packaging India Private Limited at Bangalore. He created the technical services group for the sterilisable medical packaging customers at Rexam Medical Packaging.
Later in 2001, he joined Pepsico India Holdings Private Limited (Fritolay Divison) in the capacity of Regional Director - Packaging Development - Asia.
While working at PepsiCo, he got international experience and also conceptualised the barrier extrusion laminate using plasma metallisation and CPP which again was the first time not only in India but also globally. The structure was filed for the patent.
He was hungry for more to raise the standards of packaging in India and to create packaging awareness. So then he embarked on entrepreneurial journey and founded Sanex Packaging Connections Private Limited in 2005 with the domain name www.PackagingConnections.com. He is holding the charge of this flagship consulting company in the Packaging Development Sector till date.
Mr. Sandeep K. Goyal has more than 30 years of experience in the packaging industry. He specializes in the FMCG & pharmaceutical packaging. He has offered advisory services to various PepsiCo companies in Asia and dealt with clients from North America, Mexico, and Europe extensively. He is also the President of Packdrome International and past president of India's alumni of Packaging technologists. Now he is involved with Schreiner MediPharm, Germany, Röchling Medical Neuhaus GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, Wilhem Haselmeier GmbH and Linhardt for collapsible tubes. He also worked to develop insulin pens and introduced them to India.
He holds lifetime CPP award from Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP), USA and also the Accredited Packaging Professional from IOM3 UK. He has also been trained as Modified Atmosphere Packaging & Shelf Life Extension expert by Leatherhead Food Institute.
His latest contribution to the world of packaging is his big book of packaging (www.bigbookofpackaging.com) which is the game changer to learn packaging at home while pursuing other activities and this book also works as a nice reference.
