Muhammad Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemo (born July 1, 1970) is an Islamic scholar in Nigeria with expertise in Hadith and Tafsir. He was awarded the national honor Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in October 2022 by President Muhammad Buhari for his efforts in educating and maintaining peace.[1][not in citation given][2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Sani attended Khairul Bariyya Islamic Primary School in Kano from 1978 to 1983 and Shahuci High School, Kano until 1987. He completed Senior Islamic Studies at the School of Advanced Islamic Studies, Gwale with distinction in 1989.[4]

Sani Umar studied Hadith sciences at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia from undergraduate to postgraduate level.[5][6][4]

He received a scholarship in the Department of Hadith Science at the Islamic University of Madinah after completing a B.A. (first class) in Hadith Science and Islamic Studies in 1994 and an M.A. in Hadith Science and Islamic Studies in 2000 (distinction).

In 2005, he completed a PhD at the Islamic University of Madinah with distinction.[7][8]

Career[edit]

He was a senior lecturer in the Department of Islamic Religion at Al-Qalam University in Katsina from 2006 to 2012 and senior lecturer in the Department of Islamic Religion at Bayero University in Kano from 2013.

He is chairman of the committee to recruit new members of the joint organization Scholars of Africa Study in prison that the University of Madinah is presenting to Arab scholars and the lessons of the Islamic religion. (Maiduguri, Kano and Bauchi)

He is director general of Imamul Bukhari Center for Research and Translation 'afar Islamic Documentation Center (SJIDC) and head of the Center for Islamic Civilization and Interfaith Dialogue (CICID) at Bayero University, Kano.[4][9][10]

He has taught many courses in Saudi Arabia, including the summary of the Mihhajjus Sunnah book, the Risaala book of Imam Al-Shafi' and the Bulugul Maram book.[11][12][13][14]
