Sanjay Guha

Sanjay Guha is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Active in the Indian entertainment industry since the late 1980s, his work spans theatre, television, films (telefilms), and feature-length cinema.

In 2017, Guha directed the theatrical feature film Sedin Basante. This was followed by the critically acclaimed feature film Stethoscope (2019–20), which achieved international circuit success, being screened at 67 international film festivals and winning over 40 awards globally. His next venture, Tell the Truth.. The Journey Begins, traveled to 17 international film festivals and secured 7 global awards. He has collaborated with notable national and regional actors, including Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi, Ashish Vidyarthi, Pawan Malhotra, Mousumi Chatterjee, Raima Sen, Jisshu Sengupta, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Saswata Chatterjee.

Career

Guha began his artistic career in theatre during the late 1980s. He directed the stage production Dena Paona, which staged performances and received coverage in several regional and national publications between 1987 and 1997, including Saptahik Bartaman, Amrita Bazar Patrika, The Statesman, Jugantar Patrika, Aajkaal Patrika, and Ganashakti.

In the early 2000s, Guha transitioned to television and cinema. He directed several direct-to-television features and films, including Suprobhat (2002), Mrittika (2002), Komalkoli (2003), Samadhan (2003), and Ruze (2003). His 2003 telefilm, Brishti Sheshe, was selected for a special screening at the International Film Festival at Nandan, Kolkata, in 2004. His subsequent directorial works include Atmaja (2004), Swikarokti (2005), Teen Adhyay (2005), and Uro Chithi (2010).

As of 2026, he is directing the upcoming feature film Subhashinir Itikotha.Awards and RecognitionIn September 2024, Guha was honored with the "Banga Sreshtha Sanman" at the Science City Auditorium in Kolkata for his outstanding contributions to the Bengali television and film industry.
