Sanjay Kumar Verma is an Indian diplomat.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Verma graduated from Patna University with a degree in physics. He later obtained a master's degree from IIT Delhi.[2]

Career[edit]

Verma joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1988. Initially, he served stints at the Indian missions in Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, and Turkey. Subsequently, he served as the consul general in Milan.[1]

In 2013, he was appointed the Indian envoy to Sudan. Following this, he returned to Delhi to work at the Ministry of External Affairs. He later served as the Indian envoy to Japan.[1]

In 2022 he was appointed the high commissioner to Canada. During his tenure, the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar led to a diplomatic crisis between India and Canada.[3][4]

Personal life[edit]

Verma speaks Hindi, English, and Mandarin. He is married and has one son and one daughter.[1]
